A useful video
This is a video useful
- to let my TAFE teach know I can post a video on my blog,
- and to let my potential customer know that upgrade to SSD is well worthy.

Issues with MSI Z170A PC Mate motherboards
System build with MSI Z170A PC Mate motherboards is problematic.
They cannot properly operate on 4*8GB RAM. System either does not POST at all, or loop restarting, or blue screen while installing OS.
Tried different RAMs (Crucial BallistiX and Kingston HyperX) without luck.
Upgrade of BIOS also did not help.
Only one build worked under following steps:
- Put in two RAM sticks.
- turn XMP ON in BIOS.
- Restart and confirm RAMs are operated under manufacturer parameters (timings, voltage), if not change manually and shut down.
- Put in the other two RAM sticks.
Another one with the same hardware is not so lucky. Everything goes fine after replacing the motherboard with Gigabyte Z170-HD3.

Asus 13" Transformer Book Flip (TP300L) laptop upgrade
Customer wants to upgrade its hard drive to an SSD and RAM from 4GB to 8GB.
After taking the back plate off, the hard drive part of the task is quite straightforward.
The RAM slot is hidden in the aluminum housing. I have to take that off first. Below the housing there is a 4GB RAM soldered on the motherboard and an empty RAM slot.
It will be a very handy tablet after upgrading of the hard drive and RAM.

HP Compaq Presario CQ61 Wireless Connection Issue
A customer called and asked about her HP Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop wireless connection.
It was not able to connect to her wireless at home, but two days ago it was fine. At same place her iPad's wireless has been working without an issue.
She told me that she did not change any hardware or software configuration of the laptop.
And she called Telstra and got reply that:
- Recently Telstra upgraded the wireless from 1.0 to 3.0.
- She need to open the device manager and upgrade the laptop wireless driver.
- It could be done remotely but she needs someone who know what he/she is doing.
According to her description, I suggest that it should be checked on-site at her place, as her iPad has been working fine showing that the "upgrade" does change the wireless environment; The laptop probably will work fine here in our place as the network here does not have any "upgrade". I have to check her laptop's connection to her wireless, not any other wireless. This can only be done at her place.
But the customer insisted on bring it to our place. And at the first glance we found the hard wireless switch of the laptop was turned to OFF.
This teaches me that a customer's description is not always reliable.
